We have 1 job openings for:

Junior Research Engineer in sustainable product policy – full-time

VHK is looking for a meticulous and analytical Junior Research Engineer to strengthen our team

Are you motivated by sustainability and European policy? Do you enjoy working with data, analysis, and technical research, and can you explain complex topics in a clear and simple way? Would you like to work in an international environment with direct impact on EU regulation? Then VHK is the right place for you.

Who are we?

VHK is a small consultancy firm specialised in working with Ecodesign and Energy Labelling regulations and related sustainable product policies for the European Commission. We are 6 employees (including colleagues in our Belgian branch office in Brussels), all with a technical background such as engineering or industrial design.

VHK is a full subsidiary of the Danish consultancy Viegand Maagøe, which specialises in the green transition. We are part of an international team of experts within energy efficiency, sustainable products, and climate solutions. Read more about Viegand Maagøe here: www.viegandmaagoe.dk.

Because of an increasing project portfolio and our ambition to grow, we are looking for a Junior Research Engineer who can develop into a strong consultant.

What will be your role?

As a Junior Research Engineer, you will take part of smaller project teams working on studies for the European Commission and other clients. Current projects include review studies for Ecodesign and Energy Labelling regulations, deep-dive technical studies, and translating new regulation into practical requirements and analysis.

Your work will primarily be carried out at our office in the Delft-area, and you will work closely with the Managing Director and colleagues in both the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark.

What are your tasks?

Your tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Various kinds of quantitative analysis and modelling, primarily in Excel (and potentially other tools).
  • Conducting technical and regulatory research on energy-related products and sustainable product policy.
  • Writing clear and well-structured reports in English, and potentially Dutch.
  • Stakeholder management; analysing and understanding stakeholder views and interests.
  • Potentially programming and scripting (for example in Python) to support data analysis and modelling.
  • Participating in meetings and consultations with stakeholders and clients.
  • Contributing to the development of new methods, tools, and approaches, including the use of AI where relevant.
  • Supporting business development by contributing to proposals and new ideas.

We will also introduce you to what it means to work as a consultant, including client dialogue, expectation management, and structured project work.

Who are you?

You are at the beginning of your career and eager to learn, with a strong interest in sustainability, energy efficiency, and European policy. We imagine that you:

  • Have recently graduated or have 0-2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Hold at least a university degree in engineering, applied sciences, or a related technical field (a Master’s degree is preferred). Knowledge of circular economy, materials, recyclability and repairability is a plus.
  • Have strong analytical skills and enjoy working with numbers and models, especially in Excel.
  • Are able to describe complex technical and regulatory topics in a simple and structured way.
  • Are interested in the work of the European Commission and in EU regulation on products and energy, as well as potential governmental and private clients.
  • Have good written and spoken English; knowledge of other European languages is a plus.
  • Work precisely, with an eye for detail, and can document your work by filling hours.
  • Can work autonomously, take initiative, and are proactive in solving problems and asking questions.
  • Enjoy collaborating in small, international teams and are open to working across offices with colleagues in Belgium and Denmark.

We do not expect you to tick every box. Curiosity, a willingness to learn, and a structured way of working are more important than having experience with everything from day one.

What do we offer you?
  • A full-time position (preferably 40 hours/week, minimum 32) in Delft-area.
  • A meaningful job where your work contributes directly to European sustainability policy and has real-world impact.
  • An international, highly regarded consultancy environment with a strong track record in Ecodesign and Energy Labelling.
  • Collaboration with experienced engineers and consultants, including direct contact with management.
  • A local team of 5-6 engineers, which give you responsibility and help progress your career.
  • An international buddy from our parent company Viegand Maagøe, Denmark, close to your own age, to help you settle in.
  • An informal and friendly working atmosphere, with room for your ideas.
  • Flexibility and the possibility to work hybrid, while prioritising strong collaboration at the office.
  • Opportunities to grow into a senior role over time.
